Data Recorder Supplies Peace of Mind for Agency

November 2013

In cases when it’s your word against theirs, nothing is more maddening than knowing you’re right and not being able to prove it.

For Butler Medical Transport in Baltimore, MD, that was recently a concern they didn’t need to worry about, thanks to the DVM-250Plus Video Event Data Recorder from Digital Ally. Says Operations Manager/Safety Administrator Andrew Smith, just a few weeks ago the system helped his agency out of a potentially lengthy legal battle when one of its ambulances was T-boned crossing an intersection.

“It was a pretty bad accident, with airbag deployment and everything,” says Smith. “The other driver claimed we ran the red light but the video evidence clearly proved our driver had the green light and was proceeding through with her turn signal on. That saved us right there—the insurance company dropped it immediately when we were able to prove the accident wasn’t our fault.”

The DVM-250Plus enables agencies to automatically view and/or record from up to eight uniquely triggered cameras to greatly increase safe vehicle operations, protect against false claims, provide sizeable budgetary benefits and more. The DMV-250Plus features robust reporting/management software, GPS, continuous and/or pre-event incident recording, wireless and live streaming capabilities, and more.

Smith says Butler Medical began using the DVM-250Plus almost two years ago, primarily because of Digital Ally’s ability to integrate its technology with Butler’s existing ZOLL Road Safety monitoring system. He says the setup allows the cameras to be triggered when an incident occurs, and Digital ally helped customize the system to fit his agencies specific needs.

“We’ve also found our crew members are more conscious because they know, not necessarily that they know they’re being monitored, but they definitely seem more alert,” says Smith. “They’re more aware of what we expect out of them and they know if they do something wrong they will be held accountable for it.”

Smith said in addition to the DVM-250Plus’s ease of use and customizability, he credits Digital Ally for making the process of integrating the system so simple. “A couple times I’ve had to speak with them and their tech support has always been really great to work with.”
