An ePCR That’s Easy and Maximizes Billing Collections
Patient care reports are a necessary piece of the EMS process. When they were completed with pen and paper, the learning curve was pretty simple. And while electronic patient care reporting (ePCR) is intended to streamline the mundane process of manually filling out patient care reports, it’s not always so easy.
In May 2012, the Philadelphia Fire Department decided to switch ePCRs and chose TripTix, the Intermedix ePCR solution. TripTix is the NEMSIS-Gold certified ePCR, providing features such as CAD integration, patient demographic look-up using Social Security number or driver's license, and seamless real-time data submission from individual providers to the state NEMSIS repository. Its wireless connectivity allows ambulance crews to quickly and securely complete patient care reports that are then automatically integrated with the Intermedix Billing Platform.
Philadelphia Fire Battalion Chief Diane Schweizer says the department made the switch to TripTix because of its flexibility and ease of use for the providers. “Specifically, TripTix was customized for us in Philadelphia, which allows us to accurately document patient care and then bill appropriately and maximize collections.
“TripTix is very easy to learn and use, which was important when we switched,” continues Schweizer. “We trained 800 FF/EMTs and 220 paramedics on TripTix in two months, and we use it in our busy 9-1-1 EMS system of 230,000 medical incidents.”
Schweizer says the biggest benefit of TripTix is providers can accurately document patient care, which enables the agency to maximize collections from billing. And, she adds, Intermedix has an outstanding customer service platform and is receptive to all client requests.
