Easy Reach Wall from Cromwell Emergency Vehicles

January 2014

Ambulances are not a particularly safe work environment, but efforts are constantly being made to make them safer for both patients and providers. One of the main reasons for the lack of safety is providers are often compelled out of necessity to move around the rig to reach equipment to treat their patients. How much nicer would it be to have everything you need right at an arm's length away?

The Easy Reach Wall designed by Cromwell Emergency Vehicles, Inc. and built by Osage Industries does just that.

Cromwell Emergency Vehicles (CEV) President Barry Bashkoff has been selling ambulances in the Northeast for more than 35 years and is well aware that 50–60 EMT/parmedics are killed or seriously injured in the rear of ambulances every year.

The Easy Reach Wall provides EMS personnel with equipment “within arm’s reach” (WAR). Seatbelted on the conventional squad bench the EMT/paramedic can tend to the patient and reach all necessary equipment. From the #2 position on the squad bench, the technician can also reach the patients’ right shoulder while seatbelted. If the supine patient cannot tolerate that position and needs to sit up, the Easy Reach Wall allows the technician to simply slide to the required patient care position without taking their seat belt off.

The EMT/paramedic is within arm’s reach of the oxygen port, secondary switch console, EMS radio, heater, A/C controls, overhead lighting, sharps container, trash container and suction.
