30 Years of Care in the Air

June 2014

In the February issue of EMS World Magazine, we profiled how the Center for Emergency Medicine of Western Pennsylvania is improving patient care. This month, we continue our series of profiles by turning the spotlight on Vanderbilt LifeFlight, which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year.

In the cover report, Associate Editor Jason Busch writes about some of the projects LifeFlight is involved with, including being one of six air medical programs participarting in the Prehospital Air Medical Plasma (PAMPer) Trial, scheduled to begin this month.

LifeFlight, the region’s only academic medical center-based critical care transport service, is part of the Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC). One benefit to being a part of a university system is that the opportunities for education and training never end. LifeFight opens the doors to its advanced skills and cadaver labs to the EMS agencies, prehospital providers and other emergency departments it works with.

EMS World Expo 2014 attendees have the chance to see this firsthand by taking advantage of free Vanderbilt Medical Center tours being offered during the core conference on November 11–13. You will be able to tour the adult emergency department, the emergency communications center for LifeFlight and a LifeFlight helicopter. For more information, visit EMSWorldExpo.com.
