When Seconds Count, Celox Saves Lives

September 2014

Thankfully, most EMS providers don’t need to worry about going to work and getting shot at. But for those who do, having the right equipment means the difference between life and death.

Marc Barry is the president and founder of Officer Survival Solutions, which was created to provide realistic, advanced and fully equipped survival kits for law enforcement officers. His team is made up of retired police officers and special operations corpsmen—all people who know a thing or two about what kind of equipment really matters in a tactical trauma situation.

“We recently started transitioning over to the Celox line of hemostatic gauze from BioStat, LLC, such as Celox RAPID and the new Celox EMS products, because of the timeline for use—faster packing of a wound and shorter time to hemostasis,” Barry says. “Speed of effective treatment is critical to successful tactical combat casualty care. My entire team and I have all been in multiple gunfights in the line of duty and some have experienced gunshot wounds. In a ‘real world’ care under fire situation, where little to no additional manual compression can be applied, the advantages offered by Celox RAPID can improve the overall outcome and survivability.”

Barry further explains, “When thrown into a critical situation and actively having to fire on someone, or being actively fired on by a suspect or multiple suspects, you really don’t have a three-minute timeframe to hold compression on a wound. In the real world you need to be able to pack the wound and extract to a position of cover, or get back into the fight and eliminate the threat.”

According to Barry, trauma packs from Officer Survival Solutions have been directly credited with saving the lives of multiple officers since 2009. And now all of these kits contain Celox EMS products. “It’s a proven force in officer survival,” he says.
