WASHINGTON, D.C.: EMS Strong Launches ‘Ready Today. Preparing For Tomorrow’ Campaign

The American College of Emergency Physicians, in partnership with the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians, announced March 16 this year’s EMS Strong campaign theme: “Ready Today. Preparing for Tomorrow.” The annual EMS Strong campaign provides opportunities to recognize the EMS community, enhance and strengthen the profession on a national level, and celebrate National EMS Week, May 17–23, 2020. EMS World is a proud strategic partner in the initiative.

OHIO: NREMT Extends Recert Deadline, Lifts Distance CE Restrictions

The NREMT has announced multiple COVID-19-related modifications to the current recertification cycle for nationally registered EMS personnel. NREMT’s board approved a motion extending the current recertification deadline from March 31, 2020 to June 30, 2020, as of press time. Additionally, for registrants due to recertify March 31, 2020, distributive education (DE) limitations will be removed. The Registry supports the administration of psychomotor examinations in locations where they can be safely administered. 

MASSACHUSETTS: NFPA Highlights Infection-Control Guidance for EMS

A new tip sheet from the NFPA highlights information from the NFPA 1581 Standard on Fire Department Infection Control Program and guidance from the CDC. Written for fire departments, NFPA 1581 can be easily translated to fit EMT and paramedic needs while PPE supplies are scarce. The resource breaks down responder infection control into five key areas: designate an infection control officer; keep yourself and your gear clean; use PPE; limit your exposure;  and expand PPE options in case of shortage. 

INDIANA: EMS Compact Activated; Indiana Becomes 20th State

Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb on March 13 signed legislation making his state the 20th to join the EMS Compact. The agreement enables licensed EMS personnel to cross state borders using a privilege to practice in other EMS Compact member states without obtaining a separate license. Three days earlier the EMS Compact Commission approved use of the EMS Compact process effective March 16 in response to personnel needs associated with COVID-19.
