Your Time to Shine
This year’s EMS Week is set for May 21–27, with the theme: Always In Service. “EMS professionals provide service and compassion to their communities every minute of every day, and that’s what this year’s theme pays tribute to,” says American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) President Dr. Rebecca Parker.
EMS Week is part of the ongoing annual campaign–EMS Strong–presented by the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP), in partnership with the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT). The campaign is designed to strengthen the profession on a national level, and expand and celebrate National EMS Week. New this year, the campaign features specific themes for each weekday of EMS Week, with responders encouraged to plan activities and events around the themes in their communities:
- Monday, May 22: Education Day
- Tuesday, May 23: Safety Day
- Wednesday, May 24: EMS for Children Day
- Thursday, May 25: Save-a-Life Day
- Friday, May 26: EMS Recognition Day

A Milestone Year
This is a milestone year for EMS World, as we celebrate 45 years of service to the EMS profession. The first issue of EMS World Magazine hit the streets in November 1972 and the rest, as they say, is history. Helping us celebrate this accomplishment is a man who needs no introduction—Randy Mantooth—star of the iconic TV show, EMERGENCY!, which is also celebrating its 45th anniversary. Randy will deliver one of our keynote presentations at EMS World Expo.
While we pay homage to the past, we are very much looking into the future. Our theme this year—EMS Unleashed—demands you open yourself up to new ideas and best practices. And there are so many new things at this year’s event, it’s hard to know where to begin!
We are excited to announce our partnership with UCLA’s Prehospital Care Research Forum to facilitate the 2017 International Scientific Symposium on October 18–19. Technology innovations are driving change in healthcare at a pace never before seen. Attendees at the Data and Technology Summit on October 19 will see how those innovations can increase operational efficiencies and maximize revenue. On October 15–17, we are hosting the International Roundtable on Community Paramedicine, an event dedicated to exploring a better delivery of healthcare. The “EMS World Clinical Challenge” will test your clinical assessment skills as teams of two respond to challenging, award-winning scenarios focusing on critical-thinking skills, teamwork and situational awareness.
