Dave Massengale Presented With James O. Page Leadership Award

On Feb. 25, 2022, retired Metro Fire EMS Coordinator Dave Massengale was presented with the James O. Page Leadership Award. This award is presented annually to an individual who has played a key role in creating and/or promoting nonclinical innovation in fire-EMS management at a national level.

The award is named in honor of James O. Page, a visionary and national leader in fire service EMS for over three decades.

Massengale began his EMS and fire service career as an explorer scout, volunteer firefighter, then resident firefighter before being hired as a dispatcher for the Rancho Cordova Fire District in 1980. During this time, Massengale also worked as an EMT I and EMT II for various ambulance companies. In 1987, he began instructing emergency medical dispatch for the Sacramento Regional Fire and EMS Communication Center.

Also in 1987, he was hired as an EMT II for the Citrus Heights Fire District, where later that year he was named the EMT II of the Year. In 1996, he was promoted to EMS coordinator for the Sacramento County Fire Protection District. In 2004, Massengale retired from Sacramento Metro Fire.

Massengale spent many years of his career fighting and overcoming the effects of muscular dystrophy. "We’re very proud of his accomplishments and thankful for his service and dedication to our community," read a statement from Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District.
