EDMOND, Okla. --

An Edmond mom got a shock when she mistook labor pains for back pain.

Before help could arrive, her newborn son was born.

“You hear of women being in labor for 15, 20 hours sometimes. And that being normal, so I wasn’t expected 10 to 15 minutes after my water broke to have a baby out. So, we thought we had plenty of time,” said new mother Carrie Snell.

Snell said she felt like she needed to use the restroom, and Easton, her newborn son, was born 10 minutes later.

“I was able to send a text message to my husband at 12:43 p.m., telling him my water broke. I sat down and his head was already coming out and I delivered the head and just caught him and held him,” said Snell.

Snell’s husband arrived a few minutes after the birth.

“He walked in and it just scared him. It startled him at first, and he just shut the door and walked right back out,” said Snell holding her new son.

Snell said her husband had gone outside to call 911.

“My wife's water broke and I came home from work and she had the baby,” said Snell’s husband. His voice was shaken on the 911 call.

“She had the baby?” asked the 911 operator.

“Yes, she had the baby,” he said.

Easton weighing a healthy 7 pounds and 5 ounces was given to emergency responders moments after Snell gave birth.

“It was exciting. I liked it. I took a picture on my phone and I was showing everybody at work,” said first responder Mike Adams. Adams constantly smiled when recalling Snell’s birth.

Adams told Snell jokingly that if she was going to have more children, she should probably camp out at the hospital.
