OGALLALA, Neb. --

The Nebraska State Patrol said two people were killed and six others injured in a crash in the Nebraska Sandhills early Friday morning.

State troopers were called to the crash scene 11 miles north of Kingsley Dam along Highway 61 in Keith County just after 1 a.m. Kingsley Dam is north of Ogallala.

Troopers said they found a pickup truck that had rolled several time and landed on its top. They said the eight people riding in the pickup were all thrown from the vehicle. No one was wearing a seat belt, investigators said.

Megan Spotted Tail, 28, of Denver, Colo., was killed in the crash. She was riding in the bed of the pickup truck when the crash occurred, troopers said.

The name of the second victim killed in the crash is being withheld. Troopers said he was a passenger in the front seat of the truck.

The driver of the pickup, Shantoya Yankton, 20, of Denver, was flown by medical helicopter to Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff. Martin Bull Shows, 29, of Lakewood, Colo., was transported to Swedish Medical Center in Denver.

Four children ranging in age from 2-11 were riding in the extended cab of the truck, troopers said. They were transported by ambulance to Ogallala Community Hospital. One of them was later transferred to Swedish Medical Center.

Speed and driver impairment are said to be factors in the crash, according to the State Patrol.
