Pesticide Container in Calif. Ruptures, 3 Contaminated
MOJAVE, Calif. --
A container of pesticide ruptured at a chemical plant and contaminated three people in Mojave.
Around 12:15 p.m. on Thursday, a call was received by the Kern County Fire Department, for a chemical accident in the 1600 block of Purdy Ave at the Niklor Chemical Co. in Mojave.
About 15 Kern County Firefighters responded to the incident assisted by Kern County Environmental Health Department, and California City Fire Department.
Upon arrival, crews were faced with one man who had suffered a chemical contamination when a container of pesticide ruptured, Sean Collins with the KCFD said.
The man was decontaminated at the scene and transferred to an area hospital.
Collins said that two other workers who assisted with the treatment of the man were also decontaminated at the scene, but refused any treatment and transfer.
The hazardous materials unit from Bakersfield carried out monitoring procedures to ensure that the area was safe.
