New Orleans EMS Recovers After Busy Start to 2010
New Orleans' EMS crews are getting a breather after caring for more than a million visitors almost nonstop for more than a month. The celebrations got underway with New Year's Eve, followed by the Sugar Bowl the next day. Then came the NFL playoff games, the start of Carnival, the Super Bowl victory and Saints' parade, and the remainder of Mardi Gras.

Industry Best Practices
New EMTs Truly Represent the Community They Serve
The St. Paul EMS Academy is a collaboration among the City of St. Paul, Ramsey County and Inver Hills Community College and extends to young adults workforce development and job skills training opportunities outside the traditional classroom.
EMS Training Center
Learning to deal with death is just that--learning to deal with it. Our EMS training doesn't prepare us for it, and it's not something we talk about. As highly trained professionals helping our patients survive, we are little better prepared than the layperson to manage events when a patient dies.
Continuing Education
EMS providers respond to a variety of scenarios involving electrical burns. While many of these fall under the category of medical or trauma, electrical injuries and lightning strikes can present as a combination of both. Because of this, providers must not only address the traumatic outcomes from the incident, such as burns or blunt force trauma, they must also consider any potential medical issues, such as cardiac arrhythmias.
This CE activity is approved by EMS Magazine, an organization accredited by the Continuing Education Coordinating Board for Emergency Medical Services (CECBEMS), for 1.5 CEUs.

We currently have a full roster, including part-time employees, and I have a pool of applications for EMT-Bs and paramedics wanting positions with us. Why are we so different from other services?
