Photo Documentary: Life with the Air Ambulance

For 18 months, UK photographer Julian Claxton followed the daily lives of the doctors and paramedics of the East Anglian Air Ambulance, located on the eastern shore of England. He was given access to Anglia One, joining the crew on their daily routines -- one moment enjoying a cup of tea, and in the next breath landing in a field in the pouring rain, hotfooting it to the scene.

The result was a powerful photo documentary titled "Life with the Air Ambulance," featuring about 45 photographs, available for purchase online. Here, Julian shares a selection of 17 of those photos with EMSResponder.com.

"Throughout this portfolio of work you will experience life as part of Anglia One, where I have recorded just how determined, skilled and passionate the crew are," Julian writes. "Many of the photographs observe the pressures of life working as part of the emergency services, where time is of the essence. You will join the crew on their daily routines and experience the highs, the lows and those times when words simply mean very little. My admiration for the crew has increased every moment I spent with them and I know that without their expertise many people would not be here today."
