School Bus Rolls in Fla., Hit by Garbage Truck; 2 Injured
POLK COUNTY, Ga. --
A school bus overturned with 15 students inside after a collision with a garbage truck in Polk County Tuesday morning, according to officials from the Department of Transportation.
One student and the bus driver were taken by ambulance to Polk General Hospital with minor injuries, according to a Georgia State Patrol official.
Another bus was brought in to take the rest of the students to their schools, said Buddy Harrison director of student services for Polk County schools.
Sgt. Wade Chaffin of the Cedartown state patrol post said the accident occurred when the school bus was making a left turn. He says the truck was behind the bus and was trying to pass on the left and struck the cab portion of the bus.
The students on the bus were from Cedartown High School and Cherokee Elementary School. Parents of the students who were on the bus can pick up their children at school, Harrison said.
The school bus overturned on Tallapoosa Highway, also known as State Road 100, at Sewell Creek Road between 7:30 a.m. and 8 a.m. Harrison said he was told the bus went down an embankment before rolling over.
