HOUSTON --

A man shot himself in front of emergency medical workers shortly after killing his girlfriend at the couple's northeast Houston home Wednesday afternoon, police told KPRC Local 2.

Houston police said a neighbor called 911 to report a shooting in the 7000 block of Longview Street near Boyles Street at about 11:20 a.m.

Police said the 22-year-old woman was already dead from a gunshot wound to the head when an emergency crew arrived.

Investigators said that while the crew tried to save the woman, her 24-year-old boyfriend got a small-caliber revolver and shot himself in the shoulder.

Police said the gunman was taken to Ben Taub Hospital. His condition was not released.

The couple's names were also not released.

Investigators said they did not find a history of domestic violence between the couple.
