Florida Paramedics Man Rescued From SUV Fire

KEVIN DEUTSCH
Coral Springs paramedics rescued a man from a burning SUV Saturday just moments after it crashed into a tree.

The Ford Explorer caught fire shortly before 5:30 a.m. after crashing into a tree on Coral Springs Drive just north of Wiles Road.

Rescue workers who rushed to the scene found the driver trapped inside.

As flames began to spread across the vehicle, paramedics worked to get the man free, while firefighters attacked the blaze with foam.

Although a broken fuel line beneath the SUV continued to feed the fire, the driver -- whose name was not released -- was pulled to safety.

''We had to tend with the fuel line as well as rescuing this guy before the fire got too bad,'' said Mike Moser, spokesman for the Coral Springs Fire Department.

The driver suffered serious injuries, including multiple broken bones.

He was taken to North Broward Medical Center.

Coral Springs police are investigating the cause of the crash.
