Commission to consider funding for EMS, volunteer fire department
Dec. 07--SILVER CITY -- The Pinos Altos Volunteer Fire Department and Gila Regional EMS Department are hoping to receive $120,800 in funds to help pay for repairs and maintenance, training and other items, pending approval from the Grant County Board of Commissioners at a 9 a.m. Thursday meeting at the Grant County Administration Center.
The Pinos Altos Volunteer Fire Department asked for $5,800 to cover the cost of vehicle maintenance and repair, training, supplies, defibrillators and other operation costs from the EMS Funds Act Local Funding Program for the 2013 Fiscal Year, their application states.
The Gila Regional EMS Department submitted the same application, but asked for $115,000 to offset costs from repairing five older vehicles, paramedic training, supplies, a defibrillator, two ventilators and operational costs.
In other business, the Grant County Commission is expected to approve the termination of a personal services agreement with Lekisha Marquez.
Marquez, who had contract with Restorative Justice in Hidalgo County as a circle facilitator for Juvenile Probation and Parole, sent a letter of resignation to the Grant County Administration Office on Nov. 1, resigning her position effective Dec. 1. She had held the position for the last 10 months, her letter states. She did not give a reason for her resignation. The personal services contract asks for a mutual agreement between Marquez and the Grant County Commissioners for the termination to be finalized. Marquez's contract was schedule to continue through until Sept. 1, 2012.
In other business, the commissioners are expected to
--recognize the student winners of the Red Ribbon Essay Contest
--hear an update on the AmeriCorps Launch from the Wellness Coalition
--hear an update from the Grant County Food Policy Council and
--hear a presentation from the Imagination Library of Grant County
--approve or disapprove the appointment of two members to the Gila Regional Medical Center Board of Trustees
--approve or disapprove amendments to the use of facilities policy for the Grant County Business and Conference Center and Bataan Memorial Park
In executive session, the commission is expected to discuss:
--a personnel matter regarding employee violation of the vehicle policy
--the possible acquisition of real property
