South Florida Group Donates Ambulance to Haitian Firefighters

Danielle Alvarez

Dec. 13--Firefighters from South Florida and California are traveling to Haiti on Tuesday to present a used ambulance to volunteer firefighters there.

"My personal goal is twofold," said West Palm Beach firefighter Nate Lasseur, founder of International Firefighters Assistance, an organization that provides resources to rescue workers in underprivileged countries. "One is to help Haiti improve public safety ... and the other is encouraging others to just give back."

Lasseur is hoping to present the ambulance to Croix-des-Bouquets and its 30 volunteer firefighters before Christmas Day.

The ambulance was obtained by a group of firefighters from Los Angeles County, Calif.
