The death of a 42-year-old Star EMS ambulance worker is being investigated after he died Tuesday during a struggle with a patient, according to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office.

Star EMS worker William Rose was holding on to the patient, who had been throwing punches, when he went into a seizure, according to the sheriff's office and the Oakland County Medical Examiner's Office. Rose's partner said they were trying to transport the 19-year-old Independence Township teen to Havenwyk Hospital in Auburn Hills at 10:22 a.m. Tuesday when the teen began to struggle, according to an incident report released by the sheriff's office today.

Havenwyck provides secure treatment to patients with psychiatric and substance abuse issues, according to the hospital's Web site.

Rose's partner took him to Doctor's Hospital in Pontiac, where Rose was pronounced dead at 11:44 a.m. The patient ran away but was later arrested in Independence Township. He was being held in the Oakland County Jail pending the outcome of an autopsy and a review of the case today, according to the sheriff's office.

The Oakland County Medical Examiner's Office is expected to announce what caused Rose's death sometime today, a worker there said.
