Ky. Teen Seriously Injured With Zip Line
April 29--A teenager was seriously injured Saturday when his neck became entangled in a homemade zip line, according to the Laurel County Sheriff's Office.
The 13-year-old boy, whose name was not released, was listed in critical condition at University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital in Lexington, said Deputy Gilbert Acciardo, public affairs officer for the sheriff's office.
The boy and other children were playing on a homemade zip line when the line tangled around the boy's neck. He was taken by ambulance to a waiting helicopter at the London airport, and from there was flown to Lexington.
A zip line typically consists of a pulley suspended on a cable mounted on an incline. It propels the user from the top to the bottom of the incline, but Acciardo didn't have details on how the homemade zip line was made. The accident, which remains under investigation, was reported at 4:15 p.m. Saturday on U.S. 25, about four miles south of London.
