May 16--MANCHESTER -- Ambulance Service of Manchester has received a state award in recognition of its leadership and community involvement.

A ceremony marking the Governor's Award for Career EMS Services is to be held Monday at 10 a.m. in Room 1D of the Legislative Office Building in Hartford, according to a news release.

The award, conferred by the Connecticut EMS Council as part of EMS Week (May 20-26), is an annual recognition of the dedication, professionalism and sacrifice of emergency medical services professionals, the release said. The award recognizes an organization's leadership and integrity, its training programs for citizens and the community health screenings it offers, among other qualities.

The Connecticut EMS Council is partnered with the state Department of Public Health to implement state EMS policy and programs at the regional and local level, according to the release. Manchester-based ASM serves that town, East Hartford and several other communities in north central Connecticut.
