Woman Hops in Florida Ambulance, Charged
June 06--A suburban Lake Worth woman was arrested Monday after she allegedly entered an emergency vehicle while paramedics were on a medical call.
Ana C. Lorente, 40, is facing one count of burglarizing an emergency vehicle. She remained in the Palm Beach County jail late Tuesday in lieu of $1,000 bond.
According to a probable-cause arrest affidavit, a Palm Beach County Fire Rescue crew was on the scene of a call in the 4000 block of Urquhart Street in Lake Worth when Lorente entered the ambulance shortly before 11 a.m. Monday.
A firefighter said he went back to the ambulance to retrieve additional equipment when he saw Lorente climbing into the passenger side front door.
The firefighter instructed Lorente to climb down and she refused, the affidavit said. The firefighter helped her down the steps of the ambulance and he then went to the back to get the equipment.
Lorente followed him into the ambulance and then refused to leave, the affidavit said.
The firefighter said he had to stay inside the ambulance for fear of theft or damage and was unable to return to assist the patient or his crew.
Lorente appeared to be intoxicated when Palm Beach County Sheriff's deputies made contact with her, the affidavit said.
