Colo. Medic Punched by Drunk Patient

Aug. 09--A man who police were going to take to detox to sober up Thursday ended up in jail instead after he allegedly kicked an officer and then spit on and punched a paramedic.

Marvin Owens, 38, was booked on suspicion of second-degree assault on a peace officer, among other charges, Colorado Springs police said.

An officer was dispatched to Loaf 'N Jug at 2802 E. Pikes Peak Ave. and encountered Owens, who appeared to be "extremely intoxicated," police said. While waiting for a detox van to arrive, Owens allegedly tried to punch the officer, who avoided getting hit.

But Owens "repeatedly kicked" the officer when he was in handcuffs, police said. When an ambulance arrived, police said Owens spit in a paramedic's face and then landed a punch.
