Conn. Man Arrested After Blocking Ambulance in Driveway

Dec. 17--SOUTH WINDSOR -- Police arrested a Foster Road man Monday after they say he became belligerent with them for blocking a shared driveway as they answered a medical call at his neighbor's home.

Richard Cote yelled and swore at police and EMTs, and threatened to have police cars and the ambulance towed.

When the ambulance carrying Cote's neighbor tried to leave, police said Cote refused to move his car, which was behind the ambulance. He returned home while police and medics were aiding his neighbor, police said.

When police asked him to move the car, he ignored them and began reading the newspaper and refused requests of police officers that he move his car, said Lt. Scott Custer, a police spokesman.

When police opened Cote's car door, he put the car into reverse and began to back up, forcing an officer to jump clear of the car, Custer said.

Police took Cote, 67, into custody on charges of interfering with an officer and disobeying the signal of an officer. He was released without having to post bail and is due in court Jan. 9, in Manchester.
