NAEMSP Announces 2014 Award Winners

NAEMSP

Tucson, Ariz. – The National Association of EMS Physicians® (NAEMSP®) congratulates its 2014 award winners. The following awards were presented at NAEMSP®’s Annual Meeting, Specialty Workshops, Scientific Assembly and Trade Show held at the JW Marriott Starr Pass Resort & Spa in Tucson, Arizona. The awards were presented at a luncheon on Saturday afternoon, January 18, 2014.

Ronald D. Stewart Award – Norman M. Dinerman, MD

This award is given annually to a person who has made a lasting, major contribution to the national EMS community.

In addition to being a founding member of NAEMSP®, Dr. Dinerman was part of the original faculty of the NAEMSP Medical Director’s Course and Practicum and impressed participants not only with his knowledge and wisdom but also his charm and grace. As stated in the letter nominating Dr. Dinerman for this award, “He has taught all of us, and everyone that he has touched that we live at the tectonic plates of human experience, where, as he would say God sits in judgment, Darwin is the jury foreman, and our job is to be the best advocate possible for our patients.”

Keith Neely Outstanding Contribution to EMS Award – Michael Levy, MD

This award is presented to an active or past member of NAEMSP® who has provided significant leadership to the association. The award is named after the late Keith Neely, the first non-physician member at large to serve on the NAEMSP® Board of Directors.

Michael Levy, starting with almost nothing, helped to build a three day preparatory course for the new EMS subspecialty exam that has given NAEMSP® members the tools to prepare. Holding a subspecialty review course was a substantial risk for the association, but Dr. Levy’s leadership, energy, organization and know how in getting the job done exceeded the expectation of the NAEMSP® Board of Directors.

Friends of EMS Award – Physio-Control

The Friends of EMS award is presented to an individual or organization that has been an advocate in furthering NAEMSP®’s mission through influencing or implementing national public policy.

This year’s recipient is recognized for its dedication and efforts to NAEMSP® and the EMS community. Throughout NAEMSP®’s history, Physio-Control has been a partner that has played an instrumental role in encouraging and funding the training of EMS Fellows and Fellowships. They have been an invaluable partner
