Idaho Paramedics Rescue Intoxicated BASE Jumper
May 22--TWIN FALLS -- A man who BASE jumped from the Perrine Bridge became too intoxicated to hike out of the Snake River Canyon early Wednesday.
Paramedics were able to help Walter Wooton, 30, of York County, S.C. walk out, said Lori Stewart, Twin Falls County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman.
About 12:30 a.m. Wednesday SIRCOMM got a 911 call from a man saying he BASE jumped with Wooton, but 45 minutes later, Wooton had not made it back to the canyon rim, Stewart said.
Police scanner traffic at about 12:30 a.m. Wednesday indicated that the "very intoxicated" man was lying on some rocks and may have minor injuries, but was moving and talking with rescuers.
Stewart said deputies found that Wooton was uninjured but highly intoxicated.
Twin Falls Fire Department and EMS made contact with the subject and helped walk him out of the canyon.
An air ambulance did land in the canyon, but did not transport Wooton.
