3 Kansas City Teens Shot Sunday on Violent Weekend
June 03--Bullets grazed the head of a 14-year-old girl and hit two others Sunday night as they stood near the intersection of 69th Terrace and Jackson Avenue in Kansas City.
The shooting was one of six, none fatal, reported in the city this weekend.
Witnesses heard about 10 gunshots about 8:30 p.m. at 69th Terrace and Jackson. The girl told police she was spending the night with a friend who lived on Jackson and they were talking outside with other teens when they heard gunshots. She started to duck behind a car, felt a burning sensation behind her ear and realized she was bleeding.
She and her friend sought help from relatives inside a nearby home. The girl's father drove her to a hospital.
Two other wounded victims got rides to a hospital. Bullets hit one person in the foot and another in the abdomen. Some witnesses said the gunshots came from a red vehicle south of the victims. Police did not release any information about a possible motive.
More than four hours earlier, two men were shot in a dispute at Blue Valley Park.
A 23-year-old victim told police he was in a friend's car to conduct a drug deal when a man approached about 4:15 p.m. and fired a shotgun at him. He suffered five wounds to his chest, right arm and right leg from pellets. The victim told police he grabbed his friend's gun and fired back at the man.
A short time later, a man showed up at a hospital with multiple wounds he said he sustained at Blue Valley Park.
About 12:15 a.m. Sunday, a 27-year-old man allegedly shot a 28-year-old man in the face after an argument over a woman at the suspect's home in the 1700 block of Kensington Avenue.
The victim tried to drive away after being shot, but he crashed his vehicle into a fire hydrant across the street.
An ambulance picked him up near 18th and Kensington, where he was standing, "lucid but highly upset and covered in blood with a small hole just above his right eye," according to police reports. He was listed in serious but stable condition.
Officers later arrested a suspect.
Police also responded to three shootings Saturday between 4:30 p.m. and 10:15 p.m., including an attempted carjacking at 107th Terrace and Sycamore Terrace and a reported drive-by shooting at 58th Street and Prospect Avenue where the victim changed his story several times.
