AMR Clackamas Team Wins Fifth Annual National Competition

(Denver, Colo.) — The American Medical Response (AMR) Clackamas team of paramedic Jason Mitro and emergency medical technician (EMT) Ken Shey took top honors at AMR’s Fifth Annual National Competition August 17, in Denver, Colo. Teams from across the U.S. competed in a scenario-based competition testing their patient safety and clinical care skills and the Clackamas team took the title “Best of AMR.”

“We are ecstatic that Ken and Jason are coming home with top honors,” stated Randy Lauer, AMR Clackamas General Manager. “Our professionals work hard to ensure our patients receive the highest level of care in a safe environment, and this is the ultimate recognition.”

Each year millions of patients trust their lives and medical transportation to AMR paramedics and EMTs and, in return, AMR crews deliver safe and quality care. Six teams were judged on their proficiency in emergency medical services (EMS) safety, clinical knowledge, skill and abilities; including professional operation of emergency vehicles, gurney lifting technique and patient care.

“By bringing many of the best clinicians of AMR together at a fun and competitive event, we hope to raise awareness about the importance of quality emergency medical response and transport,” said Ron Thackery, AMR’s Senior Vice President, Professional Services and Integration. “We are the largest provider of medical transportation in the U.S., and are committed to providing quality patient care in a safe environment 24/7.”

AMR operations from around the country hosted preliminary competitions throughout the year to choose the finalists for the national event. AMR teams from Arizona, California, Connecticut, Massachusetts and Oregon competed in the final competition.
