BRIEF: Harford medics help deliver baby boy

Justin Fenton

Jan. 25--Volunteer medics in Harford County assisted in a roadside delivery of a baby boy early Saturday, the Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company said.

Paramedic Danielle Ward and EMT Christopher Parker were called to a home in Forest Hill at about 3:40 a.m. for a woman in labor, and placed her into their ambulance, officials said.

As they transported the woman to a local hospital, Ward called for Parker to pull over. In the back of the ambulance, they helped deliver a baby boy at about 3:57 a.m. Additional units responded to help get them to the hospital.

The mother and baby were reported to be "doing well," Harford County officials wrote on Facebook.

The Bel Air Volunteer fire company last week laid to rest Capt. Erik Steciak, a firefighter and paramedic who was struck and killed by a vehicle while helping a woman injured in a car accident.

The roadside birth was "a much needed happy moment after all these providers have been through in the past couple of weeks," Harford fire officials said.
