Texas Police: Stabbed Man, Brother Attack Medics

Jan. 08--CORPUS CHRISTI -- Two brothers attacked medics in an ambulance while being taken to a hospital after a bar stabbing early Thursday morning, Corpus Christi police said.

Police were called about 2:15 a.m. to the bar in the 1400 block of Rodd Field Road and arrived to find the involved people gone but a bloody knife left behind, according to a department news release.

A 22-year-old man with a stab wound in his back and his brother returned while police were at the bar, according to the release. The brothers appeared to be intoxicated and yelled at the officers and medics.

The 22-year-old initially refused medical treatment but agreed on the condition his brother was allowed to go with him, the release states. Inside the ambulance the men "became combative" and tried hitting the medics, the release states.

The uninjured brother was arrested on suspicion of interfering with duties of a public servant and public intoxication, both misdemeanors, according to the release. The Caller-Times typically does not name people arrested on suspicion of misdemeanor charges.

The 22-year-old was handcuffed to the stretcher for the rest of the drive to Christus Spohn Hospital Memorial, the release states. He refused to give police information about the person who stabbed him, the release states.
