FDNY Firefighter Shot in Leg at House Fire

A firefighter was shot by a man who set a Staten Island house on fire Friday morning when US marshals showed up to serve a warrant, sources said.

Authorities surrounded the house at 15 Destiny Court after the gunman – identified as 38-year old Garland Tyree – continued shooting, sources said.

The firefighter, who was shot in the leg and buttocks, was taken to Richmond University Medical Center. He is in stable condition and expected to survive.

A message was posted on Tyree's Facebook page on Friday that read: “Today I die.”

The page identifies him as a Staten Island resident who is the CEO and founder of Real Write Publishing.

The suspect fired several shots and wounded the firefighter as multiple law-enforcement agencies surrounded the home, authorities say. Police couldn’t immediately say if the man lived at the address.

He was still barricaded inside the house as of 7:30 a.m. and surrounded by several NYPD units, including Emergency Services and K-9.

Facebook friends flooded the page with messages of concern after another post that read: “They kicked in my door and it popped off.”

“U will never die bro,” “Hope everything is ok,” “What u mean? Whats up?” were among the responses to the messages.

Garland wrote on his website that he founded his company in 2006 after he discussed with a friend and mentor “the silliness contained in a lot of popular Urban Fiction and the vacuum that it left for the more gritty and talented writers to step in.”

Tyree said he penned his first novel, “The Trey Way,” in 2009. After spending more than 18 years away from Staten Island, he returned and formed Real Write Publishing, he wrote.

He wrote on Facebook that he was “feeling drained” two hours before the incident.

“People are working against the remaining friendship we have full time,” he also wrote. “We were good before the relationship and should be good after."
