Six Hurt When Atlanta Pumper, Fire SUV Crash

Oct. 22--Six Atlanta firefighters headed to a warehouse fire Thursday afternoon were injured when the two fire department vehicles they were traveling in collided.

A fire engine carrying four personnel and an SUV carrying two others ran into each other at Lee and Van Buren streets, Atlanta Fire Department spokesman Cortez Stafford said.

According to Channel 2 Action News, which said all six suffered injuries, the firefighters were headed to the 1900 block of Murphy Avenue in southwest Atlanta, the scene of the warehouse fire. Smoke could be seen from Murphy Avenue just after 3:30 p.m.

Stafford said the two fire personnel in the SUV were "banged up pretty good." But he said their injuries were not life threatening. At least the two firefighters in the SUV were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital.

Stafford said there were enough personnel to battle the fire.
