AMR Loans Ambulances to Georgia County EMA After Fire

HAZELHURST, GA—The Jeff Davis County EMA building suffered a devastating fire Jan. 31 that damaged the building and several ambulances. The entire building—which housed EMS, 9-1-1 and EOC operations—was evacuated as neighboring counties came in to assist.

To assist fellow EMS workers and keep their communities safe, American Medical Response (AMR) immediately loaned two fully equipped ambulances from its Georgia fleet at no cost to the Jeff Davis County EMA. The ambulances were completely stocked with monitors, power stretchers, and other medical equipment. These contributions, along with those of other neighboring EMS divisions, have allowed Jeff Davis County to continue to be served and protected following the devastating blaze.

According to WSAV.com, the building is now unusable, and all five ambulances were damaged. No serious injuries were reported, but three firefighters sought medical attention, at least one for smoke inhalation, WSAV reported.

Gov. Brian Kemp and First Lady Marty Kemp traveled to the county Sunday to witness the damage. The cause of the fire has not been determined.
