Alabama Students Get Chance to Learn at Hospital

Jan. 18--Cullman High students studying to enter the medical field will get hands-on experience at Cullman Regional as a part of their course work.

On Tuesday, the Cullman city school board approved an agreement with the hospital to allow students in the high school's Medical Professional Academy Healthcare Science Program to observe and perform duties at the 145-bed facility on Alabama 157.

And if those students decide to pursue their health care education at Wallace State Community College, they may find themselves coming back to Cullman City Primary to conduct screenings on youngsters there. In two separate votes, the board approved agreements with the college to provide postsecondary students "clinical educational experiences" by helping primary and Head Start students.

Wallace State's students enrolled in the nursing and child development programs would work with primary and Head Start students. Students studying dental, human services and occupational therapy would also work with Head Start students.
