Motorcyclist Dies In Tenn. Motor Collision
Jan. 24--The Tennessee Highway Patrol confirmed Monday the death of a motorcyclist who passed away from injuries sustained during a Friday motor vehicle collision on East James Campbell Boulevard.
The passing was confirmed by Sgt. Chris Dye of Tennessee Highway Patrol.
The collision of a sedan and a motorcycle occurred shortly before 3 p.m. at the route's intersection with Park Plus Drive.
Maury County Assistant Fire Chief Tim Holt said the motorcyclist was transported to Maury Regional Medical Center with severe injuries before passing away.
The driver of the car was also transported to the medical center for minor injuries, Holt said.
The firefighters were called for a medical assist by the Maury Regional Medical Center Ambulance Service and the Columbia Police Department, assisted by the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
Six fire department personnel, along with two EMS crews and at least two Columbia Police Department officers were at the scene as both the cruiser-style motorcycle and the car were carried away on two separate tow trucks.
For an estimated two-hour period, eastbound traffic was redirected onto Park Plus Drive on an alternative route as westbound traffic stood congested.
Holt said the identities of both the drivers would likely not be revealed by the authorities in compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996.
Reports of the incident have not yet been approved for public release by the Columbia Police Department and the incident remains under investigation.
