Fla. Fire Department to Deploy Ballistic Vests to Firefighters
WHAT:
Mayor Buddy Dyer and Fire Chief Roderick S. Williams will assist in deploying ballistic vests to firefighters on all Orlando Fire Department emergency response vehicles. These vests are the latest tool used by the Orlando Fire Department to ensure Orlando firefighters are equipped with the latest technology, training and tactics to respond to any level of emergency. These ballistic vests provide fire department personnel with an increased level of personal protective equipment, which ensures they can assess patients and reduce the potential for injury to themselves when responding to active crime scenes.
Along with protective equipment, Orlando Fire Department conducts state-of-art training exercises throughout the year with Orlando Police Department and other neighboring agencies, including mass casualty scenarios, natural disaster, active-shooter, domestic violence, etc. All of our firefighters completed and are certified in Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (TECC), which focuses on a strategic approach to providing quality care to trauma patients in mass casualty scenarios.
Mayor Buddy Dyer, Fire Chief Roderick S. Williams and Orlando Emergency Medical Chiefs will be available for interviews.
