Damar Hamlin’s Doctors Say He’s Reached ‘Really Good Turning Point,’ Asked Them if Bills Won

There’s some very good news coming out of Cincinnati this afternoon.

The medical staff that’s been treating Damar Hamlin at the University of Cincinnati held a press conference to announce the injured Bills safety is in the process of waking up and has shown “fairly remarkable recovery and improvement,” according to Dr. William Knight IV.

After collapsing in Monday night’s game against the Bengals, Hamlin needed CPR and an AED to be revived at Paycor Stadium. The 24-year-old regained his heartbeat and had been intubated in Cincinnati for the past three days.

“He’s made substantial improvement. It appears his neurological condition and function is intact. We are very proud to report that,” said Dr. Timothy Pritts of UC Health. “This marks a really good turning point in his ongoing care.”

Hamlin isn’t speaking yet, but has progressed to the point where can write messages to them. According to Pritts, there was one question that isn’t standard: Who won the Monday Night Football game?

“Damar, you won. You won the game of life,” Pritts said he told him.

The doctors aren’t commenting on Hamlin’s long-term prognosis yet—the next step in his recovery is to get him breathing on his own—but clearly, this is a leap in the right direction.
