EMS Crew Saves Hiker in Texas During Wildland Training

PRESS RELEASE

CONCAN, TX—At approximately 2 p.m. on Friday April 22, 2022, while conducting wildland rescue training exercises near Concan, Texas, Front Line EMS Rapid Extraction Module Support (REMS) was mobilized by local authorities to assist in the wilderness treatment and extraction of a hiker who had been injured.

Within minutes of receiving the call, instructors and team members were on site and swiftly executed the rescue. The injured hiker was successfully extracted and transported to a local hospital for further care.

REMS personnel worked alongside local flight crew members to care for the patient and then led the steep extraction, manually lowering the patient down in a Stokes basket to the care of local ambulance services. Front Line EMS had wildland fire personnel from across the country training in a central location, preparing for the upcoming fire season, during which Front Line EMS typically deploys hundreds of medical providers nationwide to care for injured wildland firefighters.

Front Line EMS was asked to remain on standby for other possible rescues expected locally during the busy weekend ahead.

“We’re very proud of our rescue teams for the professionalism and proficiency exhibited during the rescue in Texas,” stated Melanie Bull, president of Front Line EMS. We are proud of the caliber of our team members and their ability to think quickly and operate well at unexpected times. "We are happy to have served the local area hosting our training and glad to hear the hiker was extracted from the backcountry safely.”
