Healthcare Industry`s First Program for Transgender Awareness Released

PRESS RELEASE

The law firm of Keavney & Streger has released the healthcare industry’s first online training program for providers to address the needs of transgender patients and coworkers. The program is available through the firm’s emsAegis online compliance program offered in partnership with Ninth Brain (www.ninthbrain.com), or for purchase for use on any SCORM-compliant learning management system.

Matthew R. Streger, Esq., a partner at Keavney & Streger, said this is a watershed moment for raising the bar for healthcare education for human rights issues. “The transgender community faces numerous barriers to entry to proper healthcare, countless social and societal risks, and frequent lack of understanding by coworkers and managers. This program is a first step for the healthcare community in addressing these various issues,” Streger said.

This awareness-level program has four modules: introduction to concepts and terminology related to sex and gender, along with terms to avoid; risks faced by the transgender population; skills for assessing and treating transgender patients in a safe environment; and tools for interacting with transgender coworkers. The program has embedded compliance questions to ensure knowledge retention and program completion, and takes approximately one hour to complete.

The program is intended for healthcare providers at all levels, including nurses, physicians, EMTs and paramedics, and other professionals. This is the first of a series of Learning Management System programs expected under the emsAegis program. The program is approved for New Jersey BLS CEUs.
