IAEMSC Announces Memorial Scholarship for Annual Summit

PRESS RELEASE

May 20—Coinciding with the start of EMS Week 2019, the International Association of EMS Chiefs (IAEMSC) is pleased to announce the R. Bruce Graham Scholarship, sponsored by Beyond Lucid Technologies. The scholarship will provide a complimentary pass to the 2019 International Association of EMS Chief’s Annual Leadership Summit.

Bruce Graham was a founding member of the IAEMSC. He was also an entrepreneur, a volunteer firefighter, later became the Director of Hudson (OH) EMS and was Vice President of the Ohio EMS Chief’s Association. Bruce bled deep blue. His last job was as Director of Operations for Beyond Lucid Technologies, Inc., and he fundamentally changed the company — helping it grow into what it has become today.

According to Peter Dworsky, President of IAEMSC: “Bruce was a friend, husband, father, grandfather, and mentor to EMS professionals at every level —including the leadership of Beyond Lucid Technologies. He dedicated his career to the idea that a connected EMS ecosystem was not only possible, but inevitable. In his final months, he told everyone he could about his vision for the next phase of the industry he loved: Health Information Exchange in a prehospital context as the key to centralizing the role of emergency medical services. We are the tip of the clinical-operational spear in healthcare.”

According to Jonathon Feit, Co-Founder & Chief Executive of Beyond Lucid Technologies: “Rarely, but sometimes, one is fortunate to look back on having known someone who passed in and out of one’s life too quickly, and say ‘Thank you, because without you things would be different, and you made them better.’ Bruce was such a man, and my team and I owe him a debt of gratitude (to his wife and family as well, for letting us steal so much of his time and passion). Three weeks before he passed, Bruce made me promise to keep pushing our industry to evolve, to help the public realize that without EMS, healthcare’s gears would grind down. Today is the most appropriate moment to announce a scholarship named for a man who believed, in his bones, that the best days of the prehospital care industry are yet to come.”

To apply for the scholarship, you must submit an essay of no more than 750 words discussing your vision of the future of EMS. The submission deadline is September 1, 2019 and the essay should be mailed to Peter.Dworsky@IAEMSC.org. All submissions will be reviewed, and the recipient will be selected by the conference committee. This scholarship is not limited to Chief Officers. In fact, we are looking for emerging leaders so please share this within your organization.
