School of EMS Opens Fla. Campus to Address Provider Shortage
PRESS RELEASE
The School of EMS has announced the opening of its Southeast regional location, offering online and hybrid paramedic and EMT certification courses as well as refresher courses.
The first classes offered in the School of EMS’ St. Petersburg location teach the art and science of prehospital medicine in conjunction with medical direction while working in the emergency medical service industry. This course teaches the skills necessary to perform at the Advanced Life Support (ALS) level and gain a paramedic certification.
Approximately 20 students enrolled in the inaugural paramedic class at the School of EMS’ St. Petersburg location, which officially began on Monday, November 11, 2019, and the School of EMS expects 80 EMS professionals to graduate in 2020. Licensed paramedics and EMTs remain in demand as the EMS industry has a critical workforce shortage.
“We are very excited to be in a position to educate those who want to pursue paramedic and EMT certifications,” said T.C. Howard, chief operating officer for the School of EMS. “We believe adding this new location will be of great benefit in certifying, employing and maintaining well-qualified EMTs and paramedics in the Southeast United States and particularly the Tampa Bay area.”
The School of EMS offers hybrid courses as well as online courses nationwide. With the variety of course schedules offered, students across the country can find a program to meet their needs and allow them to continue to work. A paramedic license can be earned in one year at the School of EMS.
The Southeast location of the School of EMS is one of four in the nation providing education for EMS professionals so they can bring the best in patient care to the communities they serve. Across all locations, the School of EMS has one of the highest National Registry pass rates in the country, consistently above 95%.
The School of EMS began offering an EMT course in December in St. Petersburg, which will provide the first phase of training in pre-hospital medicine and includes all skills required to provide emergency medical care at the Basic Life Support Level (BLS).
The School of EMS also partners with organizations around the nation to ensure that their employees and customers have the highest education. This includes fire departments and other EMS organizations, as well as local and national governmental agencies. Organizations can partner with the School of EMS to enroll paramedics and EMTs in refresher courses, or to advance employed EMTs to paramedics.
The Southeast campus of the School of EMS is located at 2850 Scherer Drive, Suite 500, in St. Petersburg. For information on their upcoming courses which include paramedic, EMT, CPR and EMS courses, visit their website at https://schoolofems.org.
