AMR Selected to Implement CMS’ ET3 Pilot Program

PRESS RELEASE

American Medical Response (AMR), a Global Medical Response (GMR) company, has been selected as a participant to implement the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ (CMS) Emergency Triage, Treat and Transport (ET3) program in 14 states across America. AMR is the largest participant under the ET3 program with 62 of the total 205 applicant awards. The AMR service areas will cover millions of Medicare beneficiaries.

ET3 is an innovative, five-year program aimed at providing greater flexibility for ambulance care teams to address emergency health care needs of Medicare Fee-for-Service (FFS) beneficiaries following a 911 call. Patients are assessed on site with a low acuity clinical protocol and can be treated on-site through telehealth by a Qualified Health Professional or transported to an appropriate non-emergency department alternate destination if appropriate for the patients’ condition. The ET3 program is targeted to start Spring 2020, after selected applicants sign contracts.

“We share CMS’s vision of improving quality, increasing access and lowering costs for patients and payors,” said GMR Chief Operating Officer Ted Van Horne. “We’re very proud CMS has chosen to work with us on such a large-scale program that dovetails with our own commitment to finding innovative solutions to the problems facing patients and healthcare providers alike.”

Van Horne added that the award validates GMR’s broader portfolio of innovative healthcare services that align with the ET3 program. Other company programs, like the Nurse Navigation Line, provides quick and accurate patient assessments for 911 requests, and then takes the caller through a proprietary nurse triage protocol to determine the most appropriate avenue of care.

As the ground transport arm of GMR, AMR has operations in thousands of U.S. communities, making the company a natural fit for ET3’s vast scope.
