Magen David Adom Vaccinates All Elder Care Facility Residents in Israel

Magen David Adom, Israel’s national rescue organization, reported January 7, 2021, that it has completed the first round of vaccinations in all elderly care facilities and sheltered accommodations in Israel, making it the first country in the world to vaccinate all elderly care facilities in the first phase.

Next week, the second round of vaccinations will begin, during which residents and employees around the country will receive the second and final dose.

The effort began 10 days ago, and on January 7 the first vaccination drive came to an end after the vaccine was administered to approximately 150,000 residents and employees of elderly care facilities and sheltered accommodation in Israel.

MDA teams with extensive experience treating the elderly population underwent special training in preparation for the vaccinations as part of the "Magen Avot Veimaot" program.

“This is an important day when the elderly, parents, grandparents of all of us who are in a high-risk group and a top priority in terms of vaccination received the first vaccine and are about to receive the second vaccine. And within ten days [we] will be vaccinated and protected,” stated Eli Bin, MDA director general. “Israel is at the forefront of the vaccinating countries and a leader in the field all over the world. And I sincerely hope that soon the vaccination effort will expand to the entire population and with its help, together we will defeat the coronavirus and return to our daily routine. Magen David Adom as the national rescue organization will continue to be at the forefront of the fight against the spread of the coronavirus and will stand up to any national task assigned to it with dedication, professionalism and speed."
