IAFCCP Offers New Online Community Paramedic Course
The IAFCCP Board of Directors is pleased to announce the launch of its online Community Paramedic Certification Review Course.
Developed in partnership with Columbia Southern University, this course focuses on the application of concepts related to the critical thinking necessary to do well on the International Board for Specialty Certification’s (IBSC), Community Paramedic Certification (CP-C®) Exam. Within the CSU learning community, Blackboard, students will have 24/7 access to this 10- week, self-paced, interactive review course.
Community paramedicine is an emerging healthcare delivery model that increases access to basic services through the use of specially trained EMS providers in an expanded role. Community paramedics care for patients at home or in other non-urgent settings outside of a hospital under the supervision of a physician or advanced practice provider. Community paramedics can expand the reach of primary care and public health services by using EMS personnel to perform patient assessments. Because community paramedicine is an advanced level of practice, the IAFCCP began including these health care providers within their membership in 2016.
Community paramedic Robert Smith of Atrium Health in Charlotte, North Carolina, and IAFCCP’s Board-appointed Community Paramedic Representative, is extremely pleased with the quality of education this product offers to community paramedics preparing for their certification exam. Smith said, “Our goal in offering this interactive online course is to fill a gap in community paramedic education.” He continued, “Community paramedics now have unlimited access to quality education, and at a competitive price-point.” Persons interested in knowing more about this course should visit the IAFCCP website at www.IAFCCP.org or visit the CSU website.

I am a licensed paramedic and very interested in the program. I am also a Lead EMS Instructor. I have studied this concept and began talking to members in my community because I live in a under represented community in which people of color do not receive the same treatment with regard to healthcare.
