London, United Kingdom – 1 September 2024: Cryoballoon (CB) ablation is as effective at reducing recurrences of atrial fibrillation (AF) and atrial tachycardia (AT) at 1-year, when compared to the current most widely used technique, radiofrequency (RF) ablation, in heart failure patients with a reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF), according to late breaking research presented in a Hot Line Session at this year’s ESC Congress 2024 in London, UK (30 Aug – 2 Sept).

Performing additional catheter ablations targeting diseased myocardium along with the standard approach of pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) to treat persistent atrial fibrillation (AF) does not improve freedom from arrhythmias at 1 year.
However, in a subgroup of patients with left atrium enlargement, additional low voltage-area ablation reduced AF recurrence by 40%.

WARSAW, Poland, Sept. 2, 2024 -- New research presented at the ESC Congress 2024 reveals that a novel artificial intelligence (AI) algorithm has significantly higher sensitivity than human specialists in detecting heart rhythm disorders on long ECG recordings. The DRAI MARTINI study tested the AI, finding that conventional methods using human technicians to read ECG led to missed diagnosis 14 times more often than when using artificial intelligence.
