Verizon Showcases Fleet of Deployable Communications Assets

By Kinjal Shah

In Minneapolis, Minnesota, the Verizon and Verizon Frontline teams gathered to demonstrate a range of deployable communications assets. With over 600 assets available nationwide, the Verizon Frontline Crisis Response Team showed how these assets can be used as seasonal storms begin to approach.

The Cell on Light Truck (COLT).

Cell on Light Truck (COLT): This asset can be deployed to provide coverage in areas where there is no existing network infrastructure or where the network has been damaged. COLTs were used to provide coverage in the midst of the Maui wildfires.

LTE as a Mobile Asset (LAAMA): This smaller trailer can bring 4G and 5G connectivity into the field on demand. LAAMAs are well-suited for use in rural areas or at events where there is a need for additional capacity.

Satellite Picocell on a Trailer (SPOT): This asset provides a Wi-Fi bubble with 4G LTE coverage. SPOTs are ideal for use in areas where there is no existing network infrastructure or where the network has been damaged.

Robotic Emergency Dog (RED)

The robotic emergency dog (RED) is a unique asset that can be used to provide data to first responders without having to send a human into an unsafe situation. RED can be equipped with sensors to assess air quality and temperature and can even be used to detect the presence of a bomb. RED can also be equipped with a camera to provide visual feedback to first responders.

Rapid Response Communications Unit (RRCU)

The rapid response communications unit (RRCU) is a self-contained communications hub that can be deployed to provide connectivity in areas where there is no existing network infrastructure or where the network has been damaged. The RRCU is equipped with a low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite and a medium Earth orbit (MEO) satellite, as well as C-Band-enabled (5G) cellular equipment.

Mobile Connectivity Agile Vehicle

The mobile connectivity agile vehicle is a modified electric motorcycle that is built to access smaller spaces where traditional communications assets wouldn't be able to reach. The motorcycle is equipped with a cellular network extender and Wi-Fi router.

Verizon's deployable communications assets can be used for a variety of purposes, including:

Emergency response: These assets can be used to provide connectivity in areas where there has been a natural disaster or other emergency.

Special events: These assets can be used to provide additional capacity at large events, such as sporting events and concerts.

Rural connectivity: These assets can be used to provide connectivity in rural areas where there is no existing network infrastructure.

Verizon's fleet of deployable communications assets is a valuable resource for first responders and communities alike. These assets can be used to provide connectivity in a variety of situations, from natural disasters to special events.
