Improvements in the Lab

Jodie Miller, Managing Editor

June 2004

Dear readers,

We have a number of interesting articles this month. From inventory management to C.O.N. preparation, our authors all describe different methods they have used to help smooth and improve EP productivity. In the article entitled "Protection from Radiation Exposure in the EP Lab", Dr. William Orrison describes the new technology physicians are using to protect those in the EP lab from radiation exposure. He writes that scatter radiation, which is the primary source of radiation exposure for physicians, can be reduced by as much as 70-95% when using RADPAD® products. Another article this month, entitled "Music and Electrophysiology", is a case study that tests the impact of music on three patients receiving EP procedures. Dr. Abraham Kocheril and colleagues from the Carle Heart Center and University of Illinois hypothesized that music would improve heart rate variability by decreasing cardiac sympathetic tone. Thanks to their creative thinking and innovative study, I hope others will be able to learn from and continue to improve on this. I hope you enjoy this month's issue. Next month, we will highlight some of the news from the NASPE - Heart Rhythm Society meeting that took place in San Francisco.

Thanks for reading!
