The SICP’s New England Symposium and Annual Meeting

Michelle Eggleston Society of Invasive Cardiovascular Professionals (SICP), Raleigh, North Carolina
The SICP is gearing up for the New England Symposium, taking place July 28–30 in Boston, Massachusetts. We’re looking forward to having many invasive cardiovascular professionals together to share a few days of education and camaraderie. This year’s conference will cover the basics of the Invasive Cardiovascular Laboratory (ICL) educational needs for the RCIS registry exam as well as focus on the latest advances in invasive cardiology and transradial approach procedures. We’re excited to highlight educational and networking opportunities as breakout sessions to ICL Managers as well as Invasive Cardiovascular Educators. The Educators Round Table is a session for educators by educators. This session will feature Q&A sessions with the SICP JRC-CVT representative and a representative from CCI. The session will also include other discussion topics to be determined. If you are an educator and wish to participate in planning this session, please contact Patrick Hoier at “Patrick.Hoier@southeasttech.edu”. The Managers Retreat session will focus on leadership issues in the cath lab, such as staff recruitment, retention and patient satisfaction. If you have ideas or suggestions to contribute, please contact “director@sicp.com”. As always, our meeting will feature an ever-important Legislative Update, which will focus on legislative issues facing the invasive cardiovascular professional. Attendees will be updated regarding RCIS legislation and other legislative activities that can affect the ICL professional. Discussion will follow regarding what you can do in your area and how to motivate other professionals to be aware and concerned regarding legislative activity. An SICP meeting would not be complete without SICP’s Signature RCIS Review Course, which will review information following the CCI invasive registry exam matrix. It will help identify areas of concentration for study or serve as review for the exam. The RCIS Review Course at SICP’s New England Symposium will feature topics such as coronary artery anatomy and angiography, cardiovascular anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology, hemodynamics and calculations, cath equipment and diagnostic procedures, interventions, pharmacology and radiology and radiation safety.

About Boston

Perhaps Boston can be best described as a welcome contradiction: Hip alongside historic. Skyscrapers surround parks. Gourmet meets pizza. Just as the city pays homage to every period of America’s timeline, it also serves as all things to all people. Check out one of the many museums and performing arts centers, or shop at the boutiques on Newberry Street and Copley Place. Perhaps a baseball game is more your style…there is always something to do in Boston! Boston is the capital and largest city in Massachusetts, and is one of the oldest cities in the United States. The largest city in New England, Boston is regarded as the unofficial “Capital of New England” for its economic and cultural impact on the entire New England region. With many colleges and universities within the city and surrounding area, Boston is a center of higher education and for medicine. Tucked away on Boston’s South Shore, the Boston Marriott Quincy offers easy access to Boston, Plymouth and Cape Cod. This central location makes the conference hotel perfect for Boston weekend getaways or business travel. Local attractions including the Adams Mansion, Granite Links Golf Course and the US Naval Shipbuilding Museum are just minutes away. Downtown Boston and the TD Garden are only eight miles from this South Shore hotel. The conference hotel provides city proximity without the city price. Secure your room today at the special rate of $119 a night! Call the Boston Marriott Quincy at 617-742-1000. Use the promotional code ‘SICP 2011’ to receive the discounted rate.
