Multi-Year Educational Initiative Aims to Expand Understanding of Atopic Dermatitis for Managed Care Professionals

Hannah Musick

A multi-year educational initiative to be presented at AMCP 2024 seeks to expand managed care professionals' understanding of atopic dermatitis, leading to better access to high-quality care for individuals with the condition.

A comprehensive understanding of atopic dermatitis (AD) is crucial for managed care professionals to ensure cost-effective and high-quality health care for patients dealing with this complex condition. A multi-year educational initiative from 2021-2023 aims to address knowledge gaps that hinder access to effective treatments for individuals with AD by educating managed care and payer professionals.

Impact Education, LLC and the National Eczema Association hosted multiple national webcast series and PayerTalkCE sessions, as well as published a compendium of case studies. These educational initiatives were developed following roundtable discussions with payers, providers, and community advocates to incorporate guidance and best practices.

In the webinar series, 882 managed care professionals participated, with 628 receiving CE credit. Learners showed a significant improvement in identifying burdensome symptoms of AD in the 2021-2022 series. The 2022-2023 series also saw an increase in knowledge of clinical and lived experience heterogeneity. Significant increases were also noted in understanding how AD affects the pediatric population and moderate to severe cases. Participants estimated that over 250,000 patients could benefit from the program's learnings.
