Real-Time Benefit Check: The Next Revolution in Healthcare

Real-time benefit check (RTBC) is the next revolution coming to health care. RTBC leverages National Council for Prescription Drug Programs (NCPDP) standards to provide accurate, patient-specific information on benefit coverage, medication options, and related out-of-pocket costs at the point of prescribing. In this session, the speakers will examine how RTBC may help reduce medication abandonment, improve medication adherence and outcomes, and enhance patient and provider satisfaction.
Dr Helm serves as Vice President, Solution Management for Veradigm, an Allscripts business unit and a leader in providing next-generation health care data solutions and systems. During her 19-year career at Allscripts, Dr Helm has overseen the growth and evolution of electronic prescribing from its earliest stages to the complex and mission-critical technology it is today. Prior to her time at Allscripts, Dr Helm held management positions with Caremark (now CVS Health), Maxicare Health Plans, and Baxter. She holds BS in Pharmacy and Doctor of Pharmacy degrees from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.
Ms Hessick is Senior Director of Business Development at OneOme, providers of the RightMed pharmacogenomic test, co-developed with Mayo Clinic. She is focused on helping payers, PBMs, and health care providers optimize medications to improve clinical and financial outcomes. She also serves as a Co-Chair of NCPDP’s Work Group 18 Specialty Pharmacy, leveraging technology to improve patient and provider experience. She served as the Director, Clinical and Regulatory Affairs, of CoverMyMeds from 2013 to 2018 and was responsible for representing and advocating its interests to public policy groups, state and federal legislatures, and industry groups. She previously was the Director, PBM/Plan Accounts where she led her team to successfully implement the NCPDP SCRIPT electronic prior authorization standard for a majority of major payers in the US. Ms Hessick has practiced in specialty, managed care, and retail pharmacies. She is an active member of NCPDP, AMCP, and a licensed pharmacist in 16 states.
